To check for a faulty extension, switch to Incognito Mode. To open it, click the three dots placed in the top-right corner and select New incognito window. If you can view PDFs while using Incognito mode, the problem is caused by one of your extensions. To find out which extension is causing you trouble, turn off all extensions and then enable them one by one.If you can't open PDFs even if you are using Incognito mode, hidden malware might be causing issues. Luckily, Chrome comes with a malware detection and removal tool for these cases. Opened PDFs might have odd-looking text, missing images, or even laggy scrolling. These problems might be caused by an outdated Chrome version. While Chrome updates itself automatically, you can start an update manually. Follow these steps to do so:. If the opened PDFs are still looking odd, you might have to clear the browser's cached data and cookies.Your web cache might be the reason Chrome has difficulties rendering PDFs, especially if the cache is corrupted. It saves a pdf just fine, but when I click on it in any of the apps , it opens as a blank screen not a blank page of a pdf as though there's nothing there..I only recently purchased the iPad, so all my software and apps are up to date. Oct 9, PM. Page content loaded. This may actually be an Adobe problem. I assume you're viewing the pdf in iOS Chrome. You select the Adobe application and it fails to download the document correctly. Is that correct? I use the GoodReader app, and this process still works for me. If you're using the normal send to button next to the URL bar, try touch and hold instead. You could also check for an Adobe update. We seem to be talking at cross purposes. In iOS Chrome, I'm not aware of any option to save a pdf or other file. This allows Chrome to send the URL to other apps, which then import the file themselves. Is that the method you're using? Note that this is not possible for all pdfs, maybe because their owners want to block downloads. If you're using some other technique, please describe it. Yes, I'm using the Open In function--that's what I meant by save a pdf as I can have it available on the iPad in my local documents in Adobe to access without connectivity which I can annotate and highlight etc.I tap on the pdf in the browser window to select the "open in", and select the option to copy to Adobe. I can only view the pdf in the web browsers. I've tried this with multiple pdfs from multiple sources from external websites that don't require logins and aren't encrypted and none of the pdfs work. And yes, all my software and apps are up to date. And, incidentally, I've used this method on my iPhone 5 for years to view and "save" pdfs in adobe locally on my phone so I can access them even in airplane mode etc. If you're used to a computer, where you can just toss files around and open them with any application that works, you need to recognize that iOS isn't like that. Each iOS app manages its own data as objects. So, when you try to open a pdf in Adobe, Chrome hands the URL to Adobe and it downloads the file to store inside itself. I've just tested this process with both GoodReader and the Apple iBooks app, both of which work fine. You can click the 3-dot menu in Chrome and then select New incognito window. Then, you can try to open your PDF file using Chrome to see whether it can successfully open it.If yes, it is an extension that causes the Chrome PDF viewer not working issue. To find out that extension, you can disable all extensions in Chrome and then re-enable them one at a time. If the issue re-appears after enabling one extension, that extension should be responsible for this issue. If needed, you can remove this extension from Chrome to solve the issue. If so, your computer may be infected by viruses or malware. You need to take measures to clear your computer to find and remove viruses and malware. You can directly use the Chrome built-in cleanup tool to find harmful software on your computer and then remove it. The reason lies when such PDFs are actually instructed from the server-side to download to your hard drive rather than open in-browser.There was an add-on in the Chrome Web Store that supposedly stopped these PDFs from downloading forcibly, but it no longer works. Barring a poor internet connection , this usually occurs due to conflicting third-party extensions or malicious browser-targeted code on your PC. So, let's see how you can get Chrome back to normal. To determine if this the cause of the issue, try working in Incognito mode. Doing this launches Chrome with all extensions disabled. To do that, point to More Tools on the Chrome menu, and then click Extensions. Once you comes across the problematic plugin, consider removing it or keeping it disabled when using Chrome in normal mode. If the problem occurs even in Incognito mode, then there might be malware hidden away on your PC that interferes with the browser's basic functions. It should take a while for Chrome to detect and clean up your PC. You may find various instances of missing images, weird-looking text, or laggy scrolling on certain PDFs — and rarely, on all documents that you open. However, running through the following fixes should make Chrome display PDFs properly.
