Using an electric sandblaster, Jim pulverizes dirt and rock to burrow to the surface as pincer-head termites, icky larvae, and other underground dwellers attack him. Here you must compensate for weightlessness as you guide Jim through mazelike passageways. There's even a shooter level called The Flyin' King. If your sense of humor leans toward the wicked, you'll enjoy the finger-whacking Puppy Love bonus rounds. As PsyCrow tosses helpless puppies out of a window, you have to keep them from going "splat" by running underneath them and bouncing them off a big marshmallow.Earthworm's visuals are killer from the ground up. The star of the graphical show is Jim himself, who keeps things goofy with wonderfully wacky faces. He looks loopy to begin with, but he also pulls assorted smirks, grimaces, and surprised looks throughout the game. As in every Jim game there's also a ton of bizarre stuff such as falling grandmas, flying pigs, and end-level cows. The animation's on overdrive, so sometimes you feel like you're playing an interactive cartoon.Worms don't have ears, but yours are in for a treat. The music rolls from rock to classical. You even hear Scottish and Spanish influences in the tunes. The effects are exquisite with a cacophony of yells, screams, whoas, and primo weapon blasts. If you want a good workout, sign on with Jim. It worms your heart to find a bit game this good. Way cool! Jim's finally made it onto a next-generation platform! For those of you who were cursing yourselves for not getting Earthworm Jim 2 on a bit system, have no fear; the world's most violent worm is almost ready to take his bow on the Saturn.Earthworm Jim 2 is a direct sequel to Shiny's mega-hit. Earthworm Jim. This time around, Jim's missions are even weirder. How else would you explain the Dadaist missions Jim's sent on? They range from having to bounce puppies off of a marshmallow to safety if he fails, the puppies go splat to fever-pitch battles against rampaging file cabinets. The Saturn version of Earthworm Jim 2 features enhanced graphics and music, as well as the possibility of secret levels and even more cheat codes.Keep in mind, though, that these are only vicious rumors, and we can neither confirm or deny them. You'll have to see for yourselves when the game is released this Spring. You know him, you love him; he has his own TV show. Earthworm Jim is at the top of his game. Things are going smoothly for the pop icon as he decides to take on the world of bit. EJ2, for the Saturn, remains one of the freshest, most enjoyable games ever made. Don't expect to find anything new in this edition of the game, though. What it does have, though, are much better graphics and sound, which make him brighter, louder and well worth playing all over again. David Perry and the folks at Shiny were nice enough to give us a sneak preview of Earthworm Jim 2. With more levels, better graphics and a twisted story line, EWJ2 looks better than the original. The pictures you see here are of the Super NES and Genesis versions that are only 20 percent complete. Many things could change from no until you can get your hands on it.Much to his dismay, Psy-Crow is back to cause trouble. The crow has taken Peter Puppy's pups and is about to marry the princess. What's a worm to do? It's better than the first! Everyone's favorite bait, Earthworm Jim, is back for more slimy gaming in Earthworm Jim 2. If we're lucky, they'll bring back that old lady eating the worms for the TV ad. You know what to expect - good innovative action, with a sense of humor. The worst part of the camera angle problem, though, is when you're riding around on a vehicle of sorts such as surfing on a pig. When you try to turn the vehicle, the camera doesn't follow until after the vehicle starts cruising in a particular direction. This makes it very hard to control yourself, as you can't always tell what direction you're about to turn and you may end up moving straight into the line of fire.Earthworm Jim himself has a variety of nifty moves such as jumping, high-jumping, using his head as a helicopter to jump farther, ducking, rolling, climbing, firing whatever weapon he's holding, climbing across ropes, and of course using his head as a whip. The stock of weapons Jim can get his hands on are no laughing matter -- okay, yes they are. Each weapon has some very unique abilities and can be obtained by finding the appropriate vending machine. There are also some extras here and there that help in Jim's quest. These consist of marbles, extra lives, beans the magical fruit You will also encounter numerous other people of sorts in your journeys. Some are nice, some aren't. Talk to anyone you can to get the skinny on why you are where you are and what needs to be done.In a nutshell, lots of items, lots of characters, lots of imagination, lots of fun. Earthworm Jim never looked so good. Well, okay, maybe he has, but he does looks good in this game. The graphics overall are bright and have a lot of originality in a ton of very different locations. The special effects are different from most games, due to the large variety of weapons and their effects when hitting things. For an N64 game , the graphics are above par, nice to look at, and help make the game more entertaining. The audio is wonderful and quite original. There are lots of neat sound effects and Earthworm Jim quotes that keep the game lively. There are a bunch of different types of music in the game. I particularly was impressed with the way the accordion sounds let's face it, you don't hear them very often in games. There are lots of background sounds that are generally played at a lower level but sometimes can give you the impression you are being attacked by something when you aren't.They more or less keep you on your toes at almost all times. Informative and entertaining. It goes over the basics. Strangely enough, though, you have to read it to find out the storyline of the game since the game itself really doesn't go over why Jim is in the hospital. Since the game goes over most of the basics as you need to learn them, you can do without the manual, but read it for a giggle if nothing else. As I said earlier, I have very mixed feelings about this game.Even though this is the umteenth 3D-platform game to hit the market in the past X number of months, the concept, characters, and originality of it really make it an incredibly entertaining game to watch.Unfortunately the bad camera angles and the fact that you can't see where you're going a good portion of the time really take away from the game's fun and playability factor. This game would be great as a movie, but unfortunately the developers seem to have forgotten the number one thing that makes a great game -- control and playability. I would have loved to give this game a score in the high 80's simply based on originality, but due to the amount of frustration involved with control and view issues and that it plays like virtually every other 3D-platform game out there, I can only give it a Earthworm Jim 3D takes place in a very scary place--inside Jim's head. After having what else? His subconcsious just happens to be a fully interactive 3D play environment. Fans of previous Jim titles will find the worm's various attacks and abilities intact, like his body whip-snap and helicopter float, while the visuals, especially the impressive weapon discharges and explosions, take the series to new heights courtesy of the N64s graphics engine.Earthworm Jim, everyone's favorite super segmented hero, is preparing to jump from 2D to 3D. In the preview version. EJ3D showed off Jim's classic wormy head-whip and demonstrated a new floating jump in which his noggin twirls like a helicopter blade. The game will cover just four levels, but Jim will face his old enemies, Psycrow and Evil the Cat. No word on Princess What's-Her-Namo, but that's how the worm turns.I love EWJ and it's not the same without music. ZurkinWood 1 point. I'm A Rocket Man! Andy P -1 point DOS version. I love this game!
